07.08.11July Update!!!
Well, I'm back in Toronto after two weeks on the road doing a cross country tour with Alex Goodman's band (Alex Goodman Quintet). I've added some tracks from his new album in the sounds section of this website.
It was a real pleasure to get to see more of this beautiful country - and what better way than to be experiencing it than by playing music every night with some of my dear friends (which just happen to be some of my favorite musicians to play with - PERIOD!).
This summer keeps pushing on with the usual summer business, as well as I'm getting married in two weeks tomorrow!
More to follow!!!
05.29.11Upcoming events!
Well, this summer has turned out to be very busy indeed. Starting off with a Canada tour with the Alex Goodman Quintet, getting married, and more dates scattered throughout the summer and fall.
I have put some tracks from Alex Goodman's upcoming album "Bridges" (recorded in January 2011) in the sounds section so feel free to check them out!
11.27.10Radio silence?
Talk about radio silence, hang on this is the interweb? I just realized that the last time I updated the site was March of 2009, and we're almost in December of 2010 (not to mention that the "sounds" are from 2008, and earlier).
I will be updating more frequently (and soon) with some new and exciting projects that I've been working since these last two years of "radio silence".
02.08.09Back to IRELAND!!!
I am gearing up for another tour in Ireland with drummer David Lyttle, as the third "Equilibrium" tour since meeting in 2007.
We are playing from February 23rd-February 28th and the dates are on my "gigs" page. There will be a mix of trio and quartet dates with Australian bassist, Damian Evans, and Irish guitarist Mark McKnight.
These guys really are some of the most fantastic musicians that I've had the privilege or collaborating with, and it is going to be a great time like usual.
Please check back for more details.
12.09.08Back from NYC!!
So the tour is over, and both David and I arrived back in our homes a few days ago.
Thanks to everybody that came out to the club dates, it was great to see so many new faces as well as the usual suspects. You guys are the reason why we do this, and its great to see the support.
On December 5th, we (Equilibrium) went into the studio in Brooklyn, NY (The Bunker Studios), and were very warmly welcomed by Aaron Nevezie and John Davis. They've got a great setup there with a big selection of vintage Neumann mics, and this great standalone recorder made by "RADAR" (ironically made in Canada). We recorded 7 tracks on one short day in the studio with a fantastic bassist from New Zealand (living in NYC) - Matt Penman (currently in the SF Jazz Collective, and John Scofield's band).
It was a great experience to say the least and you will be hearing more about that in the months to come.
10.23.08Equilibrium Toronto/NYC TOUR
Some more exciting news about my recent collaboration with Irish drummer, David Lyttle (www.davidlyttle.com)!! We have set up the second tour with the Equilibrium project, which is now in Toronto. The tour will start on November 25th, where we will kick off the tour hosting "The Classic Rex Jam", and will end the Toronto half of the tour a week later again with "The Classic Rex Jam" just before we head down to New York City. The idea of this project is to bring different cultures together with a common goal. We will be performing each night with a different band, also varying the content from night to night.
There are a few dates in the "gigs" portion of the website, so please check back for more updates.
07.14.08Equilibrum Trio LAUNCH!!
Some new and exciting news. We have now finally launched a web-site for the Equilibrium Trio concept - a trans-Atlantic collaboration between Irish drummer, David Lyttle, and myself on saxophones. Keep checking back for more information, or visist www.equilibriumjazz.com for more information.
06.15.08Sounds UPDATED!!!
Well, it's June 15th and I've started adding some cuts from the Irish tour in May with drummer, David Lyttle. It's been hard to find the time to edit but they will slowly be added in the next few weeks.
The first tune added: City Life (by David Lyttle) was the first tune of our set list, and this version was from the last night of the tour (Belfast).
Please keep checking back for more updates to the section and for more news about upcoming events.
05.09.08Back from Irish TOUR
I'm glad to announce that I have returned from the Irish tour w/ drummer, David Lyttle (www.davidlyttle.com).
We were performing every single night of the tour in a chordless trio with the fantastic Australian bassist, Damian Evans. We played all over the country including dates in Belfast, Galway, Dublin, Newry, and London Derry, having great coverage from the Arts Council, the BBC, and various local newspapers along the tour. There will be some clips from the tour posted later in the month, and we are looking forward to a Canadian tour nearing the end of 2008.
04.02.08New Years -to- Now
2008 has turned out to be a very busy and exciting year so far.
Since January '08, I have had the wonderful opportunity to have world renowned saxophonist, Adam Niewood from New York City, come and play three nights in Toronto's finest clubs (The Rex Hotel, The Central, Dominion on Queen). There was an excellent turnout and all three nights were recorded (check the sounds page)!!! Luckily I was also fortunate enough to have some excellent coverage from the guys at the Toronto Star (check the press section for details).
